It has
always been a dream of mine to live out in the country, and own
enough land so that I can have any kind of animal I want, and
have as many of them as I want! Chris's dream was large heavy
equipment, translated - tractor! So we purchased a beautiful 7
acre farm in Berthoud Colorado in October of 2002.
Now the
dilemma, what kind of animals do we want? We sorted through all
the typical farm animals, pigs, cattle, horses (my original desire),
sheep, goats, etc. and ruled each of them out for various reasons.
We were considering Llamas, when a friend mentioned alpacas to
us. We had never even heard the word alpacas before, Chris had
to keep answering my question, "Now what were those small
Llamas called?"!!
Well,
I've always been the type of person that knows it when I see something
I like, and the second I laid my eyes on an alpaca, the decision
was made. We did some minimal research, enough to enlighten us
to the tax breaks alpacas provide, and purchased our first alpacas
December 30, 2002. Then in January 2003, we joined local and national
clubs, and established our business!

Chris
and I are the perfect example of the technical type, escaping
to the peaceful country life! Chris holds a degree in Physics,
and works as a Software Engineer. I have a degree in Computer
Science, and work as a Systems administrator. I'm also an avid
student of animal behavior, and love to find stimulating outlets
for my creativity, such as designing web sites!
Neither
Chris nor I had any clues as to how to run a farm! But, as you will
find out, alpaca people are some of the nicest, most helpful people
around. Through the guidance, (and patience) of fellow alpaca breeders,
we were taught the basics, and to trust our instincts, and apply
common sense. And, alpacas are the easiest, and most forgiving of
animals, and have also taught us well ... they are still teaching
us! Even though we are still learning every day, we have settled
in to this wonderful new lifestyle, and we both know that this is
where we want to stay!
Committed
to Alpacas:
Chris and I are both
animal lovers, and as such, we are committed to the animals in
our care. We strive to constantly learn the best ways to care
for alpacas, and meet their needs. We will always provide the
highest quality care and attention to alpacas, treating them with
kindness, patience, and respect. And, we will strive to see that
quality care will continue even after an alpaca has left our farm
(through support and education).
Dedicated
to you:
Chris and
I are dedicated to you, the future caregivers of our wonderful
alpacas. We will provide ongoing support and education to aid
in your success, and in the happiness of your alpacas! . In the
alpaca world, we have met, and continue to meet, wonderful people
that have taught us much, and willingly shared experiences with
us. We pay it forward! Everything that we learn, and all our experiences
we share freely with anyone that is interested! All we ask is
that you do the same ... pay it forward!
